Coming from a French-Russian family, the Tchalik Quartet has the unique peculiarity of being composed of four siblings. Being born in a family where music holds a central place, they have played together from their very early age. This immersion into chamber music has enable them to develop a natural style, a collective breathing and an exceptional artistic sense.
Those qualities have been recognised from the very first international competition in which they have taken part. In February 2018, the Tchalik Quartet has indeed brilliantly won the 1st Prize and the Special Prize for the best interpretation of a Mozart quartet at the International Mozart Competition 2018 in Salzburg.
The Quartet has studied with internationally renowned musicians such as Jan Talich and Vladimír Bukač (Talich Quartet), Yovan Markovich (Quatuor Ysaye and Quatuor Danel), and Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet). In 2016, the Quartet has entered the class of Günter Pichler (first violin and founder of the Alban Berg Quartet) at the Escuela Superior de Mùsica Reina Sofia in Madrid. Thanks to these prestigious musicians who represent the different European musical traditions at their highest level, the Tchalik Quartet has developed its grand classical and romantic repertoire.
The Tchalik Quartet is also very committed in the defence of the contemporary repertoire. They have worked with composers like Boris Tishchenko, one of Shostakovich’s preferred pupil, and Thierry Escaich. In November 2017, the four brothers and sisters performed the Spanish premiere of Escaich’s second quartet, Après l’Aurore.
The Quartet has played in various festivals in France including the Festival de l’Orangerie de Sceaux and the Festival International de la Haute Clarée were it is regularly invited by Zhu Xiao Mei. It has also played in Austria, Spain, Italy and Russia. The Tchalik are often invited in the radio programs of France Musique.
The Tchalik Quartet has also won the Chamber Music Award at the International Summer Academy of Vienna University (ISA), the Award of the Fondazione Monte dei Paschi 2017 in Siena, and is supported by the Safran Foundation. By the end of 2017, the Quartet became a regular resident at ProQuartet and has been selected by Simone Gramaglia (Quartetto di Cremona) to take part in the Le Dimore del Quartetto project in Italy. In summer 2018, it will take part in the Aix-en-Provence Festival Academy.
The Tchalik Quartet works in partnership with the violin maker Philippe Mitéran and the bow-maker Konstantin Cheptitski, who have manufactured all the instruments of the musicians.
Additionally, the Tchalik regularly play as a quintet with their pianist brother, Dania Tchalik.
