Michele Campanella (born in Naples in 1947) is an Italian pianist. A pupil of the Neapolitan maestro Vincenzo Vitale, he is considered one of the greatest virtuosos and performers of the composer Franz Liszt. For over twenty years he has held the chair of piano at the prestigious Accademia Chigiana in Siena. In 1996, he founded the winter master classes in Villa Rufolo (Ravello), and has made recordings with masters of the rank of Salvatore Accardo and Rocco Filippini. He has performed in concerts with major European and American orchestras, collaborating with the most famous conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Eliahu Inbal, Charles Mackerras, Georges Prêtre, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Schippers, Hubert Soudant, Christian Thielemann and Vernon Handley. In 2012 he was awarded the Scanno Prize for Music.
