choreographer, Jacques Poulin-Denis
Jacques Poulin-Denis is a craftsman of the show business. Composer, choreographer, director and performer, he undertakes projects that blur the boundaries between dance, music and theatre. Through his humanistic and extravagant works he tries to deploy the powerful vulnerability of the characters he gives life to.
With more than twelve creations to his credit, Jacques Poulin-Denis' work has been presented in some twenty Canadian cities, as well as in the United States, Europe and Asia. A resident artist at the Agora de la Danse, he also obtained a two-month residency at the Tanz Im August festival in Berlin, as well as several periods of choreographic research in Montreal, Victoria, Vancouver, Bassano and Seoul.
He develops an interdisciplinary creative approach that he teaches regularly in the form of workshops. He is a close collaborator of choreographer Mélanie Demers, with whom he has worked as an interpreter and composer for most of the pieces of his company, Mayday, since 2006. Jacques Poulin-Denis received the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards in San Francisco in 2004 and the Saskatoon Area Theater Awards in 2009.
As a composer, Jacques Poulin-Denis has released two albums under the Ekumen label and composed the soundtracks for an increasing number of theatre and dance productions.
