baroque violin, Theona Chkeidze

Theona Gubba-Chkheidze was born to a violinist mother and a worldwide performing theatre director father in Tbilisi, Georgia. At the early age of 8 years Theona performed as violinist and singer of the girls band „Mziuri“ not only in Georgia but the whole former USSR and Europe. She completed her violin studies with distinction at the “University of Music and Performing Arts Munich” and received her Meisterklasse-Diploma. Between 2015-2017 Theona completed a Masters Degree in “Historically Informed Performance” (Baroque violin) with Professor Mary Utiger in Munich and simultaneously enrolled in masterclasses taught by Bernhard Forck, Midori Seiler and others. Theona played first violin in the „Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt“. She also performed with the Austrian chamber orchestras “Arpeggione” and "Salzburg Chamber Soloists" in Israel, the United States, Central and South America and Europe. Together with „Trio con Moto“ Theona was able to delight the audiences with presentations such as “Tango Nuevo” and “L'Histoire du Soldat”. Theona’s musical repertoire shows great variety. She regularly plays as a soloist, concertmaster and chamber musician both the modern and baroque violin. 2018 she can be heard in concert with groups, such as "Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin", “Concerto München", “Forum Alte Musik Augsburg”, “Pera Ensemble” (ECHO Classic Award Winner 2016), as well as the ensemble “Concerto de Bassus”, which she brought back to life in 2014, together with Dr. Franz Hauk. Most recently, she has toured across Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, France, Germany and Austria. As the concertmaster of the CONCERTO DE BASSUS under the conductor Franz Hauk, Theona has recorded many CDs for the label NAXOS.
